Since launching in retail grocery stores in May, Snow Monkey maker of Cacao and Goji berry Superfood Ice Treat and its team of three, has done a full pivot. In the past month, packaging has been optimized, recipes have been perfected and their co-packer has been upgraded.
Co-founder Rachel Geicke describes the process as drinking from a firehose. “Though we are new to this industry, we’re finding that retailers and customers are our best teachers, and our intuition has been our best guide.” Snow Monkey’s Kickstarter campaign was 180% funded, and they received overwhelmingly positive feedback from backers about their products. “We realized we had the potential to go big, and we wanted to make sure we had sustainable packaging because we care about the planet and so do our customers.” Introducing Snow Monkey’s new 16 oz. containers, certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
“When we decided to change our packaging, we thought it would be a great time to reflect on what else we could improve,” shares co-founder Mariana Ferreira. Geicke adds, “Our customers are health-conscious individuals who care for their minds and bodies. We want to give them intelligent fuel that is delicious and nutritious. By adjusting graphics and information on our packaging, we are able to communicate the health benefits of Snow Monkey more effectively.” The new labels make Snow Monkey’s plant-based, 20g of protein per pint and six superfood ingredients stars in the crowded frozen aisle. According to Geicke, “The beauty of being a startup is that we can enact changes quickly and stay agile.”
“Snow Monkey just might change your life. It has certainly changed ours.” Ferreira laughs as she recounts their origin story. “We set out to create an all-natural snack powered by superfoods when we were still in college. We’ve not only done it by reinventing ice cream that is made from only fruits, seeds and nuts, we also created a business that is challenging and rewarding us every day.”
Geicke summarizes her experience, “When I find myself still working at 9:30 p.m., I grab a pint of Snow Monkey for energy, and it reminds me that what we’re doing is pretty incredible. We’re turning the frozen desert concept on its head. We’re revolutionizing ice cream. We’re building a business that we hope will bring a lot of joy, nutrition and health education to a lot of people. What more could I ask for?”
